Skyworth ET5 Lr

2026-10-01 05:20:03

Model Overview

The Skyworth ET5 Lr is an all-electric mid-size SUV by Skyworth Auto, with "LR" denoting "Long Range". It was previously marketed overseas in countries like Italy as the Skyworth ET5 LR, corresponding to the domestic Skyworth EV6 Long Range Version. Skyworth Auto was founded in 2021 by Huang Hongsheng, founder of home appliance giant Skyworth Group, tracing its roots back to Tianmei Auto established in 2019. In 2020, Tianmei rolled out its debut model, the Tianmei ET5, though it managed cumulative sales of just 595 units in its first six months post-launch. In April 2021, Tianmei was officially rebranded as Skyworth Auto, followed by the launch of the refreshed ET5 under the new moniker Skyworth EV6 in July of the same year. The ET5 Lr variant features a more potent electric powertrain and an extended driving range, measuring 4,720 mm in length, 1,908 mm in width, and 1,696 mm in height, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase, a 5-door, 5-seater layout, a fully laden ground clearance of 159 mm, and a boot capacity ranging from 467 to 1,141 litres.

Design Language

The overall design of the Skyworth ET5 carries forward the styling language of the Tianmei ET5. Up front, it features a closed-off grille finished with smoked diamond-pattern trim, flanked by multi-matrix LED headlights integrated seamlessly with the grille, while Y-shaped fog lamp housings and a silver-grey serrated front lip lend it a sportier stance. In the metal, the vehicle appears rounder than in press photos, featuring rather generic front-end styling that makes the brand difficult to identify at a glance without checking the badge. Round the back, it gets full-width LED taillights with "SKYWORTH" lettering emblazoned across the centre. Inside, the cabin sports a symmetrical T-shaped dashboard layout with a layered centre console, accented by faux wood trim and chrome garnishes, offering average material quality and fit-and-finish for its class. The overall design leans towards an understated, utilitarian family-oriented aesthetic.

Powertrain and Performance

Powering the Skyworth ET5 Lr is a front-mounted single permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. The ET5 Lr delivers a maximum output of 250 kW (around 340 PS) and 340 Nm of peak torque, completing the 0–100 km/h sprint in just 7.6 seconds; by comparison, the standard ET5 pushes out 150 kW (around 204 PS) and 320 Nm, taking 9.6 seconds to hit the century mark. Energy is supplied by a 65.71 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack on the ET5 Lr, delivering a CLTC pure electric range of 520 km; the range-topping long-range variant (642 km model) packs an 86 kWh ternary lithium battery for a WLTC-rated range of 642 km. Earlier ET5 iterations offered NEDC range choices of 410 km (55.33 kWh battery) and 520 km (71.98 kWh battery). The electric drivetrain achieves a peak efficiency of 94%, with a battery gravimetric energy density of 170 Wh/kg. When plugged into a DC fast charger, taking the state of charge (SoC) from 30% to 80% takes approximately 30 minutes, with energy consumption rated at 14.4 kWh/100 km. Top speed is capped at 150 km/h.

Chassis and Handling

Underneath, the Skyworth ET5 Lr rides on a fully independent suspension setup comprising front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link configuration, driving the front wheels (FWD). Stopping power is handled by ventilated discs up front and solid discs at the rear, with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) standard across the range. In terms of tyre specifications, the 520 km variant rides on 245/45 R20 tyres, while the 642 km variant comes shod with 235/50 R19 rubber. The suspension tuning is predominantly geared towards family-oriented ride comfort; however, owner feedback and reviews highlight that the damping is merely mediocre, exhibiting noticeable body bounce over uneven road surfaces that compromises overall ride quality.

Cabin and Features

The Skyworth ET5 comes equipped with the in-house developed Skylink intelligent connectivity system, integrating Skyworth's digital ecosystem, companion app remote vehicle control, and AI voice command functionality. In the display department, it features a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster (8-inch on entry variants) paired with a 12.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment display. The head unit comes preloaded with third-party navigation apps like Amap, supports 4G LTE connectivity, and provides multimedia functions such as live television feeds and online cinema, while also linking with Skyworth smart home appliances. On the creature comforts front, higher-grade trims boast a 6-speaker audio system, wireless smartphone charging, rear USB ports, and 128-colour ambient lighting. Across the board, the ET5 is equipped as standard with a high-efficiency PM2.5 cabin air filter, negative ion air purifier, and a high-temperature circulation sanitisation system. Upholstery is trimmed in synthetic leather, featuring power adjustment for the driver's seat and front seat heating. The ET5 also introduces a signature "One-Touch Nap" mode that fully reclines the seats at the press of a button while piping in soothing background music—a defining lifestyle feature for Skyworth Auto.

Safety and Intelligent Driving

In terms of structural safety, the Skyworth ET5 is built upon a high-strength cage body structure, with dual front airbags and pretensioner load-limiting seatbelts standard across the line-up. Active safety essentials encompass Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), and Traction Control System (TCS). On the advanced driver assistance front, the ET5 is equipped with a Level 2.5 ADAS suite bundling functions like full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Traffic Speed Limit Recognition, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), and Auto Parking Assist (APA). The automated parking feature is reserved for higher-spec variants. Overall, its ADAS capability falls squarely within the L2 to L2.5 bracket, adequately handling basic semi-autonomous driving needs on highways and urban expressways.

Market Performance and Reviews

Market uptake for the Skyworth ET5/EV6 series has remained persistently sluggish. Across the full year of 2025, the Skyworth EV6 registered a total volume of just 3,621 units, with cumulative deliveries from January to May standing at a modest 1,019 units. Monthly sales figures consistently hovered around the 300-unit mark, recording 309 units in February 2025, 281 units in September, and 257 units in October. On the user sentiment side, owners have lauded its commendable passenger room, generous boot capacity, and abundant cabin storage solutions. Nonetheless, several pain points remain evident: early buyers reported strong interior chemical odours during the initial ownership period; unusual noises were noted emanating from the brakes and electric motor on the move; and an overly firm ride compromised comfort on poorly paved roads. Industry observers widely view the Skyworth ET5—effectively a rebadged Tianmei ET5—as lacking substantial evolution in design and equipment, making it tough to stand out in an increasingly cutthroat new energy vehicle (NEV) market. Although Skyworth Auto subsequently introduced upgraded iterations like the EV6 II supercharging variant and the 800V-based Shanxian Edition+, the ET5/EV6 stable has failed to gain significant commercial traction. Nonetheless, as the foundation stone of Skyworth Auto, the ET5 encapsulates the brand's pioneering ventures and teething challenges as a home appliance giant venturing into the automotive arena.
